Grumbling against God’s chosen leaders is a challenge against God!
The LORD proved His chosen leader – Aaron, the high priest. Did Aaron live a life without sin? No he did not, but he was still God’s leader.
And the LORD proved His choice.
Get a rod, one for every tribe. Write a name on each rod. Write Aaron’s name on the rod of Levi. – One rod for each tribe. Numbers 17:1-3
Gather the rods and put them in the tent of meeting overnight in front of the testimony, where I meet with you. The man I choose, his rod will sprout. This will lessen the grumblings of the sons of Israel against you. Numbers 17:4-5
This was done. Moses went into the tent of meeting the next day, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi, not only sprouted, but it also put forth buds and produced blossoms and it even bore ripe almonds. Numbers 17:7-8
Amazing God! He went beyond, way beyond, what He said to expect. Aaron’s rod bore fruit! Moses took the rod and put it in the ark of the testimony. The grumblings against God abated, so they did not die. God does not take lightly grumbling against Himself. Numbers 17:9-10
