Moses was at the top of Mount Sinai and the LORD God told him to get down the mountain. Why? Because Moses’ people, not God’s people, were corrupting themselves. The LORD God knew what the people were doing, worshiping and carrying on before a gold calf that Aaron made. Exodus 32:7
The LORD God told Moses what to expect when he got down the mountain. Exodus 32:8
God evaluated the people – corrupt! They were degrading Him. Their focus was selfish and self-absorbed. The people are obstinate! Exodus 32:9
The LORD told Moses, He would destroy these people and make Moses a great nation.
Moses pleaded with the LORD. Don’t be angry against these people, You are the One who brought them up from the land of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand. Exodus 32:10-11
The LORD relented of His anger because of Moses’ argument for the people. Exodus 32:12-14
Moses thought of the people and their need for God. Moses thought nothing of himself or becoming a great nation.
If you had been Moses, would you have desired to become a great nation?
Moses is an example we can follow, his humility is something we should copy.

1 Peter 1:4
“For by these He has granted to us
His precious and magnificent promises,
so that by them you
may become partakers of the divine nature,
having escaped the corruption
that is in the world by lust.”
