After many plagues, eight in fact, Pharaoh did not change his mind, he would not let the sons of Israel, his slaves, go to worship God. Exodus 7:14-10:20
Without a word to Pharaoh, God sent a thick darkness to cover Egypt, except for the land of Goshen, for three days. The slaves had light, no one in Egypt had that light.
The darkness was so thick, the Egyptians could not see each other. If you have ever been in a salt mine or a gold mine deep into the earth, you can experience that kind of darkness when the lights are turned off for a few seconds. I cannot imagine what it would be like for three days! In that kind of darkness you cannot see your hand held closely in front of your eyes. It is scary.
Pharaoh capitulated, well sort of. All the Hebrews could worship their God but they could take no animals of any kind with them. Moses did not back down. We have to have animals to sacrifice and we won’t know what the LORD wants us to sacrifice or how many. All of our livestock needs to go with us. One more time, the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart. He would not back down from his position.
Moses was done! He had had it with Pharaoh’s hard heart, you won’t see my face again. When you see me, you will die.
Little did Moses or Pharaoh know that one more plague would follow the darkness.
Their meeting would be one of anger, on both sides. Exodus 11:8
No compromise – no backing down on either side of the problem.
Between you and me, I would pick God’s side.

Psalm 98:1
“O sing to the LORD a new song,
For He has done wonderful things,
His right hand and His holy arm
gained the victory for Him.”
Carefully choose the side of the LORD.
He wins!
