Impossible? Not with God!
The LORD grew Abram’s faith in Him and His word. We all start out with a small seed of faith but are we growing in our faith in God?
The LORD came to Abram after Abram and his allies had a great victory over their enemies. Genesis 14;1-24
The LORD used a vision (not a dream) to speak to Abram.
“Do not fear Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great.” Genesis 15:1
Abram was concerned, greatly concerned about an heir. He and Sarai did not have any children! A servant of Abram was his heir, Eliezer of Damascus. Genesis 15:2
The LORD took Abram outside, in the dark of night and told him to look up at the night sky. Velvety darkness made the stars sparkle. The LORD told Abram to count the stars. Of course he couldn’t because there were too many of them.
The LORD told Abram he would have as many descendants as there were stars. Impossible? Not with God! Abram believed God and the LORD counted Abram as righteous because he believed God’s words to him.
When you have seemingly impossible circumstances, who is your faith in? Is it in yourself or another person or man’s wisdom? Perhaps it is in your circumstances. Shouldn’t it be in the living God? Who does the impossible!
Abram was 75 years old! And he believed God would bring him descendants as many stars in the night sky.
The LORD reminded Abram that it was He who brought Abram out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give this land of Canaan to him and his descendants. Genesis 15:7
The LORD had Abram sacrifice an animal to Him. Abram prepared the killed animals and Abram had a time of fighting off birds who came swooping down on the fresh kill.
Abram drove them away, many times so he could complete the sacrifice God required of him. Genesis 15:9
The LORD prophesied about the future… Abram’s descendants would be strangers in a land, enslaved there for 400 years. The LORD would judge that nation and the descendants of Abram would come out of that country with many possessions and go to Canaan. Genesis 15:14
Was this impossible with God? No, it was not.
BTW – the LORD accepted the sacrifices which Abram guarded and protected until a deep sleep came on him. Genesis 15:17
