Out of fear, do you ever, EVER, do something which you were not authorized to do?  But you thought it sounded like such a good idea and you thought it would get you out of a dilemma?

That’s what Abraham did!   Abraham was told by the LORD to go to Canaan.

God did not tell him to go down to Egypt.  Why did he go there?  There was a famine in the land.  Abraham took all that he owned, and his wife and nephew too.

He got down there and fear took hold of his thinking.  Uh-oh, there’s an oops! coming.  His wife Sarai (before it was changed to Sarah) was beautiful.  He feared the Pharaoh would kill him so Sarai would be added to the Pharaoh’s harem.  So Abraham and Sarai decided to tell a lie, they decided to reveal that Sarai was a sister to Abraham, and not mention that she was his wife.  (There’s the oops!)   Sari did become part of Pharaoh’s harem.  Pharaoh gave Abraham many gifts of livestock and servants too.

Pharaoh found out about the deception and confronted Abraham!  Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife?  Here is your wife, take her and go!

Pharaoh had Abraham, Sarai and all that belonged to Abraham escorted out of Egypt.  Genesis 12:9-20

What oops! has occurred in your life because of living by fear?
What oops! has God used to help your faith in Him to grow?

“For God has not given us a spirit of timidity (fear),
but of power
and love
and discipline.”
