Job was a man who lived a long time ago.  Yet he was a man whose faith in the living God was a great example for us today in the 21st century.
Job was considered blameless for he feared God and turned away from evil.

We too need to fear God with reverence and turn away from evil.

Job had seven sons and three daughters… he was a wealthy man, he had many sheep, camels, oxen, female donkeys, and many servants.  He was known as the greatest man of all the east.
Job 1:1-3

Job was concerned about the spiritual lives of his children.
Shouldn’t we be concerned for those who are in our family?  Do you pray and become involved in their lives, giving them an example and encouragement to seek the Lord for themselves?

Such was Job’s life… meanwhile in heaven, Satan and many others presented themselves to the LORD God.  God singled out Satan, who had roamed the earth, walking around in it – seeking to do mischief.  The LORD asked Satan, Have you thought about My servant, Job?  There is no one like him on earth, he is unique, he is without blame and an upright man.  He fears Me and turns away from evil.  Job 1:4-8

Satan answered the LORD, Does Job fear God for nothing?  You have given him protection, You have blessed him in every way possible.  Put out Your hand against him and he will curse You to Your face.  Job 1:9-11

The LORD told Satan, all that Job owns, you can use your power but do not touch Job himself.  How happy that must have made Satan.  He left God’s presence.

The LORD gave Satan such an opportunity!  How Satan must have muttered to himself with glee.  But God knew the heart of his servant, Job.  And God knows your heart, follower of Christ.  God also knows He is more powerful than Satan.

Satan methodically killed all the livestock Job owned and killed the servants that were guarding them.  The ten children of Job were all together in a house, celebrating when a great wind struck the house and all within were killed.  Job 1:12-19

What did Job do with such catastrophic news?  He got up, tore his robe in mourning, shaved his head and fell to the ground and worshiped God!

“Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God.”
Job 1:22

God’s Word ~ Alive!
Job 1:21
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
And naked I shall return there.
The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away,
Blessed be the name of the LORD.”

How do you react to catastrophe?
