Have you ever wondered why God chooses people who do not believe in Him to accomplish His purposes?  Have you ever wondered if you can be used by God to impact others?  As a Christian, do you want God’s will to be accomplished through you?

Balaam, a false prophet in the Old Testament, was used by God to bless His people, the Israelites.  This was even during a time when Balaam was being sought after to curse the Israelites by Balak, the king of Moab.

Numbers 23:7-8 (NIV) “Balak brought me from Aram, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains.  ‘Come’, he said, ‘curse Jacob for me; come, denounce Israel.’  How can I curse those whom God has not cursed:  How can I denounce those whom the Lord has not denounced?”

Even though Balaam went to the king of Moab to do the king’s bidding, he was stopped by God from cursing Israel and instead blessed Israel.  Balaam’s heart was not toward God.  However, he accomplished God’s will to bless the Israelites.

Sometimes, as Christians, we want our own way and choose to go our own way.  When we find ourselves outside of God’s will, we, like sheep, have gone astray.

However, there is good news!  When we give ourselves over to God’s will, no matter where we are, God can still use that for His glory and His purposes.  Even when we mess up, God can use our past as a testimony of His love for us.  We can be a willing and true testimony of His forgiveness, His mercy, and His grace.  We can testify to God’s love for us!

Peter denied Christ…three times…at Christ’s time of dire need.  Matthew 26:69-70.  Yet, God chose Peter to build his kingdom.  Matthew 16:16 and Acts 2:14-21

I Peter 1:3-9 (NIV) “…In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
