Seeking God
“Zacchaeus was a wee little man. A wee little man was he! He climbed up in a sycamore tree for the Lord he wanted to see…” I remember growing up and singing that song in Sunday School. It was a fun little song, but at the time, that was all it was.
The story of Zacchaeus is in Luke, chapter 19. He wanted to see this Jesus. This man he heard so much about. So, he really did climb a tree because he was short and couldn’t see Jesus. Jesus saw him and told him to come down out of the tree. He was going to Zacchaeus’s house and was going to spend time with him and his family.
(NIV) Luke 19:5-6 “When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, ‘Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.’ So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.”
Zacchaeus sought out Jesus. Zacchaeus opened his home to Jesus and gladly spent time with Him. His whole family eternally benefited because Zacchaeus climbed that tree!
