Esau heard and saw his younger brother being blessed by his father.  And then Jacob was sent away to find a godly wife.

It seems Esau never asked his father for godly advice about whom to marry.  Nor did Esau ask the Lord God for His leading.

Esau had married two women, both pagan Hitites.  What did Rebekah and Isaac think of Esau’s wives?

(NASB) Genesis 26:34-35 “When Esau was forty years old he married Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hitite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hitite.
35 and they brought grief to Isaac and Rebekah.”

Fact: children’s spouses may cause grief to the parents.
Parents if this is your story – turn to God and His ways for you.  Forgive and choose to love.  Remember you are building relationships for the future.

From hearing and observing, Esau learned that his two wives displeased his father, Isaac.
What to do?!!  Turn to God?  I doubt that thought even crossed his mind.
Ask godly advice from his father?  Didn’t have to!  He had heard and seen his father’s advice for Jacob.

Esau’s solution:  stay within the extended family, so he went to Ishmael, a son of his grandfather Abraham.  He married Uncle Ishmael’s daughter, Mahalath.  (Genesis 28:9)

How often do you observe and hear godly advice for another and come up with your own conclusions?  Observations without communications are dangerous.  Wrong conclusions are reached.

Your choices should not be based on your observations or what you hear.  Your choices may not be pleasing to God.

Esau did not turn to God or trust Him for solutions, do you?

~ Take it to heart ~

(NASB) Isaiah 55:6-7 “Seek the Lord while He may be found;
Call upon Him while He is near.
7 Let the wicked forsake his way
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
And let him return to the Lord,’
And He will have compassion on him,
And to our God,
For He will abundantly pardon.”

Seek the Lord!
 Don’t depend on your own solutions for your problems.
