Background
Abram, and his small army, went to war and defeated a larger army.  (Genesis 14)
He had a right to take a percentage of the spoils of war.  He took nothing for himself.

God appeared in a vision to Abram while he prayed in his tent
(NASB) Genesis 15:1 “AFTER THESE things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying,
“Do not fear, Abram,
I am a shield to you;
Your reward shall be very great.’”

Abram’s realistic concern and fear – no heir.
(NASB) Genesis 15:2-3 “Abram said, ‘O Lord God, what will You give me, since I am childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?’
3 And Abram said, ‘Since You have given no offspring to me, one born in my house is my heir.’”
When you pray to God, be honest!  Be forthright!  Tell the living God your fear(s).

God understood Abram’s “hidden” fear.  This is what He addressed as He revealed His promise to Abram.
God understands your hidden fear(s).  “Listen” as you read the Holy Bible and know God’s word is for you!

God’s promise to Abram
(NASB) Genesis 15:4 “Then behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying, ‘This man will not be your heir; but one who will come forth from your own body, he shall be your heir.’

What fear(s) do you have hidden away in your mind, your heart, your life?  God has an answer – He is your shield.

Fear(s) are not to control you or to rule your thoughts or conduct… faith is your shield against fear(s).

God used His creation to explain His promise to Abram
(NASB) Genesis 15:5 “And He took him outside and said, ‘Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.’  And He said to him, ‘So shall your descendants be.’”
Look up, look around and know that the Creator God is greater than your fear(s).

Abram’s response to God Himself
(NASB) Genesis 15:6 “Then he believed in the Lord; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.”
Faith in the living God and His promises makes us righteous from God’s point of view.

~ Take it to heart ~

God is greater than fear(s) carried in your mind, your heart, your life.

(NASB) Ephesians 6:16 “… take up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
