Abram had a resounding victory over four kings.  As he and those with him were nearing home, the king of Salem came out to meet him.  His name was Melchizedek.  This king brought out wine and bread for the nourishment of these people.  The city of Salem was later known as Jerusalem.  This man was a king and also a priest of God Most High.  (Genesis 14:17-18)

Melchizedek blessed Abram when he said that Abram was blessed by God Most High.  This God is possessor of heaven and earth.

Melchizedek continued, blessed be God Most High for He was the one who delivered Abram’s enemies into his hands.
(Genesis 14:19-20)

How did Abram respond?  By giving Melchizedek a tenth of all the spoils he had taken when he defeated his enemies.

Melchizedek was both king and priest – he is a “picture” of Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ.  Messiah is king and priest forever.

(NASB) Hebrews 7:1-3 “For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God…
2 to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth part of all the spoils, was first of all, by the translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace.
3 Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually.”

God gave a “picture” of Messiah to Abraham and to all who read His word, the Holy Bible.

Jesus is King of Righteousness.

Jesus is King of Peace

Jesus has eternal life, indeed He was God the Son before creation.

Jesus is King over all kings.

Jesus is Priest forever.

~ Take it to heart ~

Is Jesus your King, your Priest?  If so, you are given His eternal life – forever and ever.

If not, He can be.  He can be your choice, this moment, by asking Him to forgive you for unbelief and for your specific sins.  Then receive Him into your life as your Savior/Redeemer.
