Protection – Roget’s Thesaurus includes words that could be used in place of “protection:” preservation; salvation; safe-keeping; guardianship; safety; security; sanctuary and refuge among other words.

All of these describe what the Triune God did in the Garden of Eden when He drove Adam and Eve from the garden.  What?  How could the living God be so heartless, by driving the first couple from the only home they had known?  (Genesis 3:22-24)

God’s love, mercy and grace were involved when Adam and Eve had to leave.  Why?  The Lord God protected them from eating fruit from the tree of life.  If they had eaten its fruit – they would have been forever without a way to live with the Lord God in eternity.

They would have been forever condemned as sinners without a way of being forgiven by the holy God.

God in His wisdom and love recognized that His mercy and grace would be given through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ many thousands of years later, when He died on the cross for sins.

God protected Adam and Eve… He gave them His protection, preservation, salvation, safe-keeping; His guardianship, safety, security – He was their sanctuary and refuge.

(NASB) Genesis 3:22-24 “Then the Lord God said, ‘Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”–
23 therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken.
24 So He drove the man out; and at the east of the garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim and the flaming sword which turned every direction to guard the way to the tree of life.”
