*God’s Warning*

God is just and He warns us – are we listening?  And just as important are we responding to His warning?

(NIV) Hebrews 10:26-31 “If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.  28Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.  29How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?  30For we know him who said, ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay.’ And again, ‘The Lord will judge his people.’  31It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

Deliberate sinning after you have the knowledge of God’s truth – there is no sacrifice for those sins.  (NIV) Hebrews 10:26 “If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,”

God’s words do not lie – when anyone deliberately sins, there can only be a fearful (terrifying) expectation of God’s judgment.  His judgment is a raging fire which consumes His enemies.  (NIV) Hebrews 10:27 “but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.”

The illustration of the Law of Moses is an example of God’s just judgment.
(NIV) Hebrews 10:28 “Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.”

Deserving of punishment…unbelief is trampling the Son of God.
(NIV) Hebrews 10:29 “How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?”

God’s judgment avenges sins… only a loving God would warn of such dire consequences.
(NIV) Hebrews 10:30 “For we know him who said, ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay.’ And again, ‘The Lord will judge his people.’”

God’s judgment will be terrifying…this is why you and I need Jesus!  Every day of our lives.  Faith in Jesus alone saves us from God’s just wrath of our sins!  Why?  Because it is Jesus who died for our sins.
(NIV) Hebrews 10:31 “It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
