Who is Melchizedek?
(NASB) Genesis 14:18-20 “And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; now he was a priest of God Most High.
19 He blessed him and said,
‘Blessed be Abram of God Most High,
Possessor of heaven and earth;
20 And blessed be God Most High,
Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.’
He (Abraham) gave him (Melchizedek) a tenth of all.”

A king and a priest…two offices usually performed by two men.  Not so with Melchizedek.  Not so with the Lord Jesus Christ.  Not only is Jesus the coming King, not only is Jesus the High Priest, He is also Savior and Lord.

It is Jesus Who delivers you from your enemies.  He is Victor over our sins and death. He gives eternal life so we will be in the presence of the living God.  There is no need to fear Satan’s power any longer – Jesus is more powerful still!

Indeed, blessed be God Most High!  You are delivered from your enemies when you trust Jesus to be your Savior.  Delivered!  Transformed!  Eternally a child of God!

Melchizedek was a king and high priest of the living God in the days of Abram (Abraham).  He is a “type” of Messiah, God’s Anointed One, the Lord Jesus.

The living God gives us ways to understand Who He is and what He does through examples of people in the Old Testament.  The Old Testament is the Law and the Prophets in the Torah.  He also reveals Himself to us through the life of Jesus in the New Testament.  Jesus came to show us Who God is.  God is knowable…God is available…God – the living God, provides the way into His presence for eternity.

Jesus – Savior, Messiah,
coming King, ministering High Priest,
Son of God (fully God), Son of Man (fully man).

(NASB) Philippians 2:6-11 “who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
