How many times have you assumed a role of responsibility – because of your “rights” or your experience or your education or your demanding personality?  Consider this, not one of those “reasons” reveal humility; instead, they reveal your pride.

No one takes the honor of being called and appointed to the office of high priest, not even the Lord Jesus Christ!
Jesus was chosen, appointed and called to be High Priest by God the Father.

(NASB) Hebrews 5:5-6 “So also Christ did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest, but He who said to Him,
‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You’;
6 just as He says also in another passage,
‘You are a priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek.’”

Think about the true humility of Jesus – humility is complete yieldedness to God the Father.

If you consider yourself a humble person…consider Jesus:
*Jesus did not claim His rights to take the office of High Priest.
*Jesus was God the Father’s sovereign choice called to that position.
*Jesus obeyed – fully – His Father’s will for Him…He suffered and died on a cross – that was God’s choice for Him.
*Jesus gave up His “rights” as God the Son to become fully Man so you and I can receive eternal life. (Hebrews 5:9) That is agape love, godly love!
*Jesus died on a cross and before He drew His last breath He cried out, ‘It is finished.’  (John 19:30)  He completed everything that His Father asked of Him…for you!

Jesus, the only begotten Son of God (John 3:16), was chosen by His Father, called by His Father and appointed to the role, the responsibility of High Priest.  He is the faithful High Priest (Hebrews 3:2) Who made reconciliation for you and me (Hebrews 2:17).

Faith in Jesus is necessary.  It is through His humility and obedience we have peace with God the Father.  It is never through our humility…only the humility of Jesus.

Jesus ~ chosen, called & appointed by God the Father
to be our High Priest forever!
