The Priesthood of Christ is important, very important.  Christ Jesus is the High Priest appointed and called by God the Father.  He is the ultimate and highest Priest between God and sinful people (that’s you and me).

Jesus entered heaven after His resurrection and ascension as the High Priest.
(NASB) Hebrews 2:17 “Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.”

Jesus ~ He was merciful and faithful in serving God so He could atone for your sins and mine.  He took our place so we can be freed from the guilt of our sins.

(ESV) Hebrews 3:1 “Therefore, brothers in the family of God, who share a heavenly calling, think of the Apostle and High Priest of the religion we profess, who was faithful to God who appointed him.”

Consider carefully God’s call and appointment of Jesus Christ as our High Priest.

(NASB) Hebrews 4:14 “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.”

Consider carefully God telling us that Jesus was our High Priest before He entered heaven.  In fact, the high priestly prayer of Jesus in John 17 was prayed before his suffering and death.  Even then, He was the appointed high priest.

Jesus was not appointed high priest for His own glory or even because He is the Son of God – He was called and appointed on your behalf and mine.  We need Jesus!  We need Him to intercede for us.

Consider this: Jesus was not voted on to become high priest.  The office of high priest was not bought and not gained by political maneuvering – He was appointed by God the Father.

The Levitical priesthood were men appointed to serve God on behalf of the people.  Jesus became fully Man, He was appointed by God to serve people.  He was ordained to serve God by offering gifts and sacrifices for sins.  Jesus qualified as high priest.  He was personally involved and possessed the same nature as you and me.  He intercedes for us.  (Paraphrase of Hebrews 5:1)

We sin…we need a Savior and a High Priest.  Jesus does it all.  His life, death and resurrection is a fact.

We need Him to intercede for us every day, throughout our day.

Praise to God for we have such a Savior and High Priest – Jesus Christ the risen Lord.
