Jesus was arrested in the dark hours of early morning on the Mount of Olives.  His disciples were there.
(NASB) Luke 22:49-51 “When those who were around Him saw what was going to happen, they said, ‘Lord, shall we strike with the sword?’
50 And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear.
51 But Jesus answered and said, ‘Stop!  No more of this.’  And He touched his ear and healed him.”

The disciples experienced “Fight or Flight” response.  Their first reaction was “Fight!”
But Jesus did not need His disciples to defend Him then, and He won’t need His armies to defend Him when they come with Him the second time He enters history.
(NASB) Revelation 19:11-16 “And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.
12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself.
13He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses.
15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty.
16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, ‘KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.’”

Why didn’t Jesus come as king that first time?  Because He came as the Suffering Servant-Savior – bringing peace between God and people.  He could only do that on the altar of the cross.  There He was the perfect, sinless sacrificial Lamb for your sins and mine.  This was love in action…God’s love for you!

When Jesus comes the next time, He will come as King over all kings.  He will strike down the nations – not with the armies that come with Him, but with the sharp sword of His mouth.
Our Savior, our King; followers of Christ, is indeed All-Powerful, All-Knowing, Everywhere Present.  Even today.

How do you know Him?  As your Savior?  Good!
Do you know Him as your King?
