It was in the early hours before dawn when Jesus had finished praying.  He then went to His sleeping disciples telling them: “Why are you sleeping?  Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”  (Luke 22:46)

(NASB) Luke 22:47-48 “While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was preceding them; and he approached Jesus to kiss Him.
48 But Jesus said to him, ‘Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?’”

Prophecy of Messiah’s betrayal was at that moment fulfilled!
(NASB) Psalm 55:12-13 “For it is not an enemy who reproaches me,
Then I could bear it;
Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me.
Then I could hide myself from him.
13 But it is you, a man my equal,
My companion and my familiar friend…”

(NASB) Psalm 41:9 “Even my close friend in whom I trusted,
Who ate my bread,
Has lifted up his heel against me.”

God’s words are true!  God’s words will be fulfilled ~ all of them!
God’s promises are true and therefore believable.  They are to be acted upon.  Do you?
God’s warnings are also true; therefore, believable and to be acted upon.  Do you?

What is devastatingly painful?  A friend who betrays.
And why, why did Judas give Jesus that kiss?  It was to identify Jesus to the arresting soldiers.  It would have been dark in that garden, so early in the morning.  There would have been no street lamps, only the light from torches being carried.  There were eleven other men there and Judas needed to single out Jesus, but with a kiss of friendship?  To be betrayed is heart-wrenching.  A kiss of friendship would be like a dagger-thrust.

And with the betrayal of Jesus by Judas, Scripture was fulfilled.

Question: Who has betrayed you?  Have you forgiven them?
Who have you betrayed?  Have you asked forgiveness?

Judas could have received the forgiveness of Jesus by repenting, but he was only filled with awful remorse.
