Gethsemane – the Battle Fought & Won – There
Jesus had fully yielded to His Father’s will for the coming hours of suffering, separation from His Father and death. There…there, the agony of battle was fought in Gethsemane. There…there, the battle was won!
Jesus prayed on His face in that Garden of Olives. Jesus prayed with great emotion and His physical body was affected by His agonizing distress.
The intensity of Jesus’ prayer was unlike what most of us experience:
(NASB) Luke 22:43-44 “Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him.
44 And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground.”
Where have you been when you intensely prayed when faced with a devastating prognosis or a life changing event?
When you pray in such a situation, are you “ho-hum” or bland in your words and with your feelings? I hope not!
Did you drop to your knees (if physically able) or even onto your face before the living God?
Only you can pray in such a way…no one can do it for you. It must be between you and God only. For no one, no one can yield to God for you!
As a follower of Christ you too can find that place of Gethsemane where you yield to God as Jesus did for you…it was at Gethsemane – the Battle Fought & Won – There, by Jesus…for you. That is God’s love in action – for you!
Some Scriptures you may want to use (there are many others):
Proverbs 3:5-6; Matthew 26:39, 42.
When the battle is won, then you too will be strengthened to face the coming circumstances. The inner peace which only God can give strengthens you within to face the dire, agonizing situation. God’s peace, His presence with you, cannot be explained adequately. Peace that surpasses our understanding, even our imagination – His peace which only comes from the living God of the Holy Bible.
It is in Gethsemane where Jesus fought and won the battle.
The battle fought: yielding to His Father in prayer. Yielding to God’s will, in God’s way for God’s glory.
The battle won: the results of yielding to God…for the ordeal ahead.
What battle do you need to fight, and win, in your Gethsemane?
