Jesus never minced words, nor was politically correct as He warned of the religious scribes’ hypocrisy.
Jesus was the same wherever He went, in private or in public.  He is the same, yesterday, today and forever.  What a LORD to serve, to worship, to follow!
(Hebrews 13:8)

How disappointing it is when we meet other believers in Christ who profess faith in Him and live as if their faith was in themselves.  That is hypocrisy!
When you are alone, or with your family or in the public arena, are you the same person?
To answer that question, I would have to say “No, I’m not.”  This is one of those areas the LORD is working on in my life, how about in yours?

What was one of the things Jesus said during the week of Passover as He was teaching in the Temple?
(NASB) Luke 20:45-47 “And while all the people were listening, He said to the disciples,
46 ‘Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love respectful greetings in the market places, and chief seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets,
47 who devour widows’ houses, and for appearance’s sake offer long prayers.  These will receive greater condemnation.”

Jesus described, in detail, the hypocrisy and pride of the scribes.  (Dictionary: Scribes: Interpreters and teachers of the Mosaic law.)
1-Be warned!
2-The scribes walked around in long robes – for many to see them
3-They loved to hear respectful greetings in the marketplaces – for many to hear
4-They loved to sit in the chief seats of the synagogue – for many to see their importance
5-They loved banquets – to be honored by invitations to the elite functions
6-They devoured widow’s houses – greedy and without thought for the needs of women
7-They said loooong prayers – to appear piously religious

What did Jesus say in judgment of such attitudes and actions?  “These will receive greater condemnation.”  (Luke 20:47)

Where in your life do you need to listen to what Jesus had to say about the scribes in His day?
