The scribes and the chief priests, the Sadducees, had rejected Jesus as Messiah.  They were interested in only one thing – to “get” Jesus.  They were out to have Him killed and they wanted to have it done by Pilate’s authority.  They wanted Jesus dead by the authority of Rome.

Jesus had answered two questions and with His answers had thwarted His enemies. (Luke 20:22-26, 27-39)

Now Jesus had a question for them:
(NIV) Luke 20:41-44 “Then Jesus said to them, ‘How is it that they say the Christ is the Son of David?  42David himself declares in the Book of Psalms:

‘The Lord said to my Lord:

‘Sit at my right hand

43until I make your enemies

a footstool for your feet.’
44David calls him ‘Lord.’  How then can he be his son?”

And how can we answer that question today?

Consider this perplexing use of words by Jesus.  Messiah is to come through the lineage of King David.

The proof of Jesus’ lineage is found in Matthew 1 and Luke 3.
Both genealogical sources show David as His ancestor.
Jesus quoted David from the Book of Psalms.  (Psalm 110:1)
The Lord God Almighty, who is God the Father, said to David’s Lord (Messiah)
“Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”

Because the Messiah is God, David calls Him LORD.
Because Jesus is the Messiah, He is David’s LORD.

Who do you call Messiah?  Is it Jesus?  The Greek word for Messiah is Christ.  Is He your LORD?

Savior, Jesus, Master, God Almighty = Messiah!

Most of the Jewish religious leaders did not acknowledge Jesus as the expected Messiah.
  Do you?

If you do receive Jesus into your life as Savior and Lord, it will make all the difference in this world and into eternity.

Who was King David’s LORD?

Messiah Jesus was King David’s LORD.  Is Jesus the Christ your LORD?
