Hell – a Place of Torment
Jesus told a story, perhaps it is a true story since He did not call it a parable and He also called a man by name, Lazarus.
In this story Jesus gives a graphic picture of Hell. For this story, see yesterday’s devotional and/or Luke 16:19-31. For the basis of this devotional, the NAS Bible is used.
From the scenes described by Jesus we can get a “picture” of Hell:
Luke 16:23
It is a place of torment
Luke 16:24
The people in Hell are able to see with their eyes into heaven
The people in Hell feel physical pain
They are able to talk
There is no water available
They have a physical body
They are in agony in the eternal flame prepared by God for the devil and his angels – Matthew 25:41. Jesus said so!
Luke 16:26
There is a great chasm fixed between heaven and hell – it is impossible for anyone to cross from hell into heaven.
The chasm was fixed by the living God.
Heaven…and Hell…are very real places…Jesus said so.
Jesus warns us, repeatedly in the Gospels, in the Old and New Testaments of our need to make a choice…we are either for Him or against Him. This is not a gray area!
Heaven is where God is.
Hell is where God is not.
Will you be with God in eternity or not?
