Followers of Christ: we are to consciously choose to live with our mind set on things above and not on the old self which is like those without Christ.
(NASB) Colossians 3:2 “Set your mind on the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”

(NASB) Colossians 3:9 “Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices,
10 and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the one who created him – ”

Lay aside: the old self (before you became a committed follower of Christ).
Put on: the new self (and be renewed to a true knowledge of God).
Let: Christ’s peace rule in your hearts (in your conscious choices) with thankfulness to God.  (NASB) Colossians 3:15

(NASB) Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

(NASB) Colossians 3:17 “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.”
In the name of Christ alone we are to speak and act.  Through Christ alone are we to give thanks to God the Father.

Conscious Choices:
Lay aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, abusive speech (Colossians 3:8)
Put on: a heart of compassion (no matter if others are not compassionate toward you), kindness, humility (yielded to God), gentleness, patience, bearing with one another, forgiving each other, love (“the perfect bond of unity”)
Let: Christ’s peace rule in your conscious choices
Let: Christ’s words live in you and through you
Consciously choose: in whatever you do today, do in the name of Jesus with thankfulness to God the Father.

Today:  “Set your mind on the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”  (NASB) Colossians 3:2
