Sunday after Sunday, many congregations say the “Lord’s Prayer” together, aloud.  I wonder, do they realize, do we realize, whenever we pray this prayer – we are agreeing with God for His will to be done?  For saying God’s will to be done is an act of submitting to His will!  Do you, are you submitting to His will for you?

(NASB) Matthew 6:10 “‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.”

For what are we asking the living God when we pray this prayer?  Aren’t we praying for God’s will to be accomplished?
What is God’s will?
Jesus said, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”  (Matthew 3:2)

To worship God, God’s way:
(NASB) Romans 12:1-2 “THEREFORE I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

To submit…to be committed to God in submission to Him…what does God say through the book of James?
(NASB) James 4:7-8 “Submit therefore to God.  Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.  Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”

What must happen when I “Draw near to God?”  I must be cleansed and purified, to recognize that I am a sinner and I need forgiveness.  That forgiveness comes through faith in Jesus.  (He is the One Who died in my place, took my punishment for my sins, my doing wrong…yes we are to acknowledge, admit our sinfulness before this holy God!)

When we pray, Sunday after Sunday, “Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name.  Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven…”  Do we mean it, or are we just saying a rote prayer to someone, somewhere…out there?
