Jesus used a vivid picture of a field, ripe for harvest.
(NASB) Luke 10:1-2 “NOW AFTER this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come.
2 And He was saying to them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’”

Another word used in other translations for beseech is ask or pray…

Whenever we talk with the living God of the Bible…we are praying.  Jesus told these men, these seventy men, what they were to ask Him for: for Him to send out workers, laborers into His harvest fields.

Where we are sent to do God’s will, it is easy to forget it is His field, not ours.

We may take pride in “our” work for the Lord.  And when we do that, we are not pointing to Him but to ourselves.

Do you “see” people with whom you live and work as God’s harvest fields?  And we are to pray, beseeching the Lord of the harvest to send out more workers, more laborers into His fields ready for harvest.

For what do I need to be prepared after praying such a prayer?  Be ready to relinquish my ideas, and even my role, to another for whom God has prepared.  I can be assured that He has something in mind for me, I need to be obedient to His leading…and He tells me to “beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
