A farmer plowing a field puts his eyes on a point beyond where he wants to end a row (to guarantee a straight furrow).

Jesus used this simile to emphasize His call to you and me.
(NASB) Luke 9:61-62 “Another also said, ‘I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home.’
62 But Jesus said to him, ‘No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.’”

What field is Jesus calling you to plow?  Once that field is started – our focus is to be on Jesus and what He has called you and me to do.

We are to plow the whole field – not looking back on what we have left.  Not starting, then stopping before the field is all plowed.
Our goal is to please our God and finish what He calls us to do – each day!

A plowed field is a preparation for seed to be planted.  How you and I plow a field will determine how God and His word will be planted in others lives.

Perhaps your prayer would be similar to mine:
‘Lord, help me to plow in straight rows today – give me the persistence to finish what You have called me to do.  Help me, please, to plant your words of truth in the lives of those with whom I have contact.
In the name of Jesus Who calls me to plow a straight row.  Amen.’
