Jesus’ Departure Point
Jesus was on a mountain with three of His disciples (Peter, John and James). They had gone up the mountain to pray. And while He was praying, the face of Jesus changed and His clothing became dazzling, brilliantly white. Then two men were there, talking with Him, one was Moses, the other Elijah. (Luke 9:28-30)
About what were they talking?
(NASB) Luke 9:31 “…(they) were speaking of His departure which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.”
Before you go on a trip, you make plans; you make many decisions about how you are going to get to your destination and what the timing will look like.
Jesus already knew the plans, the decisions about how He was going to get to His destination had long ago been decided…and the time was fast approaching for all those plans to be accomplished. The departure point was Jerusalem…there He would die and be buried. There He would rise from the grave to live forever and ever. There He would accomplish the impossible…to take all your sins on Himself and take your punishment for those sins before God the Father.
(John 3:16-21)
Jesus told His disciples at a point in His ministry:
(NASB) John 14:6 “…I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”
Your belief in Jesus to be your Savior from your sins (for all have sinned and all have fallen short of God’s glory – Romans 3:23) is what saves you forever and ever.
All people, all, are sinful. There is not one; no, not one, who is “inherently good”.
This is why you and I need Jesus. He alone has born our sins in His own body on the cross. He alone has taken the punishing stripes of a whip for your sins and mine. No one, not one, has done that for you and been accepted by God…only Jesus.
For Jesus to go to His Father, He was to go to Jerusalem for His departure point.
When you depart from this life…will your destination be in heaven where Jesus is?
You can be sure of your destination when you receive Jesus as your Savior. If you have not done that…go the Resources tab at the top of this page then to God’s Plan of Salvation.
If you have already done that…then you do not need to ever do that important step again. (No one can take you from Jesus, He is hanging onto you tightly. John 10:25-30)
The next step is to grow in your knowledge and your faith in your Savior and God through reading God’s word…day by day.
