Jesus stated that “My hour has not yet come” when His mother wanted Him to reveal that He was Messiah at a wedding in Cana.  (John 2:4)  Again He stated this twice to His brothers when they wanted Him to go to Jerusalem during a feast.  (John 7:6, 8)  Then again Scripture tells us that His hour had not yet come when men tried to seize Him in Jerusalem (John 7:30).  Another time men did not seize Him for the words He was speaking because “His hour had not yet come.”  (John 8:20)

Jesus asked His disciples who people thought He was…they said, John the Baptist, Elijah or one of the prophets from the Old Testament.
Then Jesus asked them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter answered, “The Christ of God!”  (Luke 9:18-20)

Then Jesus emphatically said they were to tell this to no one.
(Amplified Bible) Luke 9:21 “But He strictly charged and sharply commanded them [under penalty] to tell this to no one [no one, whoever he might be.]”

Why would He say this?  I believe that Jesus was very aware of God’s timing to fulfill Scriptural prophecy about His trials, His death, His resurrection and even His ascension into heaven.
His hour had not yet come for this truth to be known.

Jesus waited for God the Father’s perfect timing…
He…waited…God’s…timing…
How patient are you in waiting for God’s perfect timing in your life?

Many times, I am impatient and I want God to work now if not yesterday!
Look at that last sentence…“I” is the focus, not the Lord God.

Learning to be content in the moment is a huge lesson.  Being content is a lesson which we learn throughout our lives and followers of Christ are to put being content into practice on a daily basis.  Learning to lean on, trust in the timing and power of God.

(NASB) Philippians 4:11-13 “…for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.
12 I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.
13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

The Lord Jesus lived being content with God’s timing…and so should we.
