“I Am the Light of the World”
Jesus said:
(NASB) John 8:12 “…I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.’”
What are the contrasts of living in the darkness as opposed to living in the Light of Christ Jesus?
Living in the darkness: is to stumble through life, falling into ditches and pits made by yourself or others.
Living in the Light of Christ: is to walk with Him. We are assured and can be confident (no matter the storms of opposition we will encounter).
Living in the darkness: is to be dead toward God – without faith in His holiness and without faith in His provisions through Christ Jesus, without belief that what God says is true.
Living in the Light of Christ: is to follow Him by doing what He says to do.
Jesus gave a promise to all who believe in Him as their Savior:
(NASB) John 3:16-18 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
17 ‘For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
18 ‘He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
Jesus gave a warning to those who do not choose to believe His words:
(NASB) John 3:18-20 “‘He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 ‘This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.”
20 ‘For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.”
Then Jesus concluded with an invitation to whoever believes:
(NASB) John 3:21 “‘But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought (Amplified Bible: “divinely prompted, done with God’s help, in dependence upon Him.”) in God.”
Practicing the truth of God is to believe in Jesus, all that He did and all that He said.
Practicing the truth of God is to follow Jesus, the Light of life!
