Jesus was in a house filled with people, spilling out of doorways and leaning in at the windows.  A message was given to Jesus…‘Your mother and brothers are here and want to speak with You.’  Jesus’ surprising answer?

(NASB) Luke 8:21 “…My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.’”  (See also Matthew 12:46-50; Mark 3:31-35)

Jesus did not make any distinctions or say anything which was exclusive about being one of His family.  He included anyone who would hear God’s word and put it into action.  The conditional ‘if’ is implied in Jesus’ answer.  To be considered as if you are His mother, a sister or a brother…you need to listen to what God has to say and to believe it by putting it into practice.

Notice: Jesus never said anything about doing the word of God as being easy, ‘fun’ or without sacrifice.
Putting God’s truths (His words) into action is to believe what He says (believing all of His words).  Faith that what God says is true is to put His words into action.

Are you listening?

Today?

(NASB) Romans 10:14-17 “How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed?  How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard?  And how will they hear without a preacher?
15 How will they preach unless they are sent?  Just as it is written, ‘HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!’
16 However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, ‘LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT?’
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.”

Are you hearing the word of Christ?

Belief will result in action.
