A picture is worth a thousand words…and Jesus used parables to paint pictures in the minds of those who listened to Him.  He did when He walked this earth and He does it still.

(NASB) Luke 8:16-18 “Now no one after lighting a lamp covers it over with a container, or puts it under a bed; but he puts it on a lampstand, so that those who come in may see the light.
17 ‘For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.
18 ‘So take care how you listen; for whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him.’”

To go into a dark house is uncomfortable until a light switch is turned on.  When the lights come on it reveals what is in that room.
Jesus gives a warning: ‘So take care how you listen; for whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him.’”

One way that we express that we understand something, we might say, ‘a light came on.’
Has God’s word become a ‘light’ for you recently?

Perhaps Psalm 32:8 could be your prayer for God to teach you:
(NASB) Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go;
I will counsel you with My eye upon you.”

Are you hiding what you understand of God’s word from those with whom you interact in your home, in your church, in your community, at work or where you go for recreation?

Asking for understanding of God’s word is to listen with open ears, open heart and open mind to God’s truths then put them into practice…you will be blessed, blessing upon blessing.

Jesus’ warning?  If you don’t listen with a teachable attitude, what you do understand will be taken away from you.  And you will be bereft of God’s blessings.

A teachable attitude is to result in applying God’s words to your life.

Are you Blessed or Bereft?
