Seed Sown on Rocky Soil
(NASB) Luke 8:5 “The sower went out to sow his seed…”
Parable of Seed sown on rocky soil…
(NASB) Luke 8:6 “Other seed fell on rocky soil, and as soon as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture.”
Parable of Seed sown on rocky soil…explained by Jesus:
(NASB) Luke 8:13 “Those on the rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no firm root; they believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away.”
To grow, water must be applied to the roots of plants, or they die. Just so, God’s word must be applied to water the roots of faith in Jesus Christ and God’s words on a daily basis.
When anyone is not “rooted” in God’s words and they do not have believing faith that God’s word is truth…they will wither and fall away from God when difficulties and temptations come into their lives.
Believing that Jesus is the Son of God and came to save you from your sins is to live in (abide in) Him.
(NASB) John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.”
It is Christ Jesus who sets apart His committed followers by washing them with the water of His word:
(Amplified) Ephesians 5:26 “So that He might sanctify her (the church, Christ’s followers), having cleansed her by the washing of water with the Word.”
It is Christ’s word which makes us clean – His words convict us to turn to follow Him in obedience to what He says through the Holy Bible:
(NASB) John 15:3 “You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.”
It is God’s word (Scripture) on which we base our belief in what Jesus Christ has done:
(NASB) Romans 10:8 “But what does it say? ‘The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,’ that is, the word of faith…”
What anyone must do to be saved from their sins, to live in eternity with the Lord Jesus, is to do what God’s word says to do…
(NASB) Romans 10:9-11 “That if you confess with your mouth ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11As the Scripture says, ‘Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.’”
