What are the world’s motives for how they treat others?
Motives are all important in our expectations of others.

(NASB) Luke 6:32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?  For even sinners love those who love them.”
Loving those who love you is commendable.  But Christ-like love is loving others who are not always lovable.

(NASB) Luke 6:33 “If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you?  For even sinners do the same.”
Expecting good to be returned for a good deed is the way many people live.

(NASB) Luke 6:34 “If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you?  Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount.”
Giving to “get” is the way of the world.  Christ did not give to “get”.

What are the motives to be of the followers of Christ?
Your method reveals the motives behind your actions.

(NASB) Luke 6:35 “But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great…”
The followers of Christ are to have no expectations of return when they love their enemies, do good to others and lend.

What promise is given to Christ’s followers which surpasses the world’s motives?
(NASB) Luke 6:35 “…your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men.

God’s methods: to be loving toward your enemies, doing good to others, lending and expecting nothing in return.

What truth did Jesus use to sum up God’s ways?
(NASB) Luke 6:36 “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”

This is how we are to live…because our Father (God Almighty) has been, and is, merciful to us…for we are sinners saved by His grace through faith in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
