Jesus was teaching His chosen disciples as well as others listening to Him.
(NASB) Luke 6:20 “And turning His gaze toward His disciples, He began to say,
‘Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.”

Did you notice that!  “Blessed are you who are poor” and Jesus was looking at His disciples!  They were poor?  Yes, even though they made their living fishing, collecting taxes and making their living by various occupations.  Even the richest among them, Jesus said they were poor.  With whom do you compare your financial status?  Do you compare it to God and His riches?  We are poor indeed!

Our satisfaction is to be in the facts of being in God’s favor and having His salvation!  And that can be only through faith in Christ Jesus.

The Amplified Bible states this same verse in this way:
“And solemnly lifting up His eyes on His disciples, He said: Blessed (happy – with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, apart from your outward condition – and to be envied) are you poor and lowly and afflicted (destitute of wealth, influence, position, and honor), for the kingdom of God is yours!”

Jesus made sure He had eye contact with His followers…His eye contact was needed so they would pay attention to what He was going to say.  Do you do that with others?  Make eye contact before you say something of importance to you and to them?

Are you listening to what your “boss” has to say by looking at him/her and listening intently?
When you speak to others in a group, do you make eye contact?  Or are you so intent on your presentation that you neglect this all-important means of communication?

Jesus wants you and me to listen to Him and His words, for they are of the utmost importance, to you and for you.

(NIV) Luke 6:20 “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.”

Can you hear His desire for you to hear and respond to His words of blessing?  Are you making eye contact with Jesus?
