Old wine and new wine are not mixed to drink.  The old wine, due to the “aging” process develops its “bouquet”, its flavor.
New wine will become “old wine” as it ages, developing its flavor as it sits bottled on a shelf somewhere.

People, many times, are slow to accept new ways.  They like the old ways and being able to sit on the sidelines somewhere.  And that was Jesus’ point about the life He would give to anyone who chose to believe in and receive His life within.
(NASB) Luke 5:39 “And no one, after drinking old wine wishes for new; for he says,
‘The old is good enough.’”

Followers of Christ: do you love the old nature above the new life which Christ has given you?  Have you considered if you have changed, becoming more like your Savior by reading what pleases Him and then putting it into practice?

What is keeping you back from the joy of God’s salvation for you?  This is a question I have asked myself.  What is it?  Is it self-pity?  Is it pride?  Is it sorrow?  Is it anger?  Is it resentment?  What is it?

Where in your life are you grieving the Holy Spirit of God which has been given you by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ?  (Ephesians 4:30)
Where in your life are you quenching His Holy Spirit?
(1 Thessalonians 5:19)

We are to examine ourselves carefully and hold fast to that which God calls good…we are to turn from and abstain from every form of evil.  God says so!
(1 Thessalonians 5:21-22)

We, as followers of Christ, can no longer say: “The Old is Good Enough”

A Paraphrase of Proverbs 3:5-7          PRAYER:
O LORD, You are trustworthy and I come, trusting you with all my mind, my emotions and my will.

I desire not to lean on my own understanding of my circumstances or the doubts in my mind or the ways of people any longer.  I acknowledge You to be God.  I acknowledge that the path You choose for me is Your best for me.  I know You will make it clear and straight.

You alone are wise and I need to turn from being wise in my own eyes.
You are to be feared because You are God.  Fear of You is a reverential fear and a healthy fear.  For it will give me boundaries beyond which I am not to go.  Fear of You helps me to turn away from evil.

Thank You for hearing my prayer, for my old ways are not ‘good enough’!

In the name of Jesus, my Savior, Amen.
