Simon and his partners had fished all night…nada, zilch, nothing had been caught…
all      night      long.

Jesus used Simon’s boat as a means to speak to a crowd on the shore of Lake Galilee.  Then Jesus asked Simon to “Put out into deeper water and let down your nets for a catch.”  (See Luke 5:4)

Simon did what Jesus said to do…even though he was tired from working all night…
(NASB) Luke 5:6-7 “When they had done this, they enclosed a great quantity of fish, and their nets began to break;
7 so they signaled to their partners in the other boat for them to come and help them.  And they came and filled both of the boats, so that they began to sink.”

God’s abundance was given after Simon did what Jesus said to do…

(NASB) Luke 5:8 “But when Simon Peter saw that, he fell down at Jesus’ feet, saying, ‘Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!’”

God’s abundance was not given to a perfect Simon Peter; in fact God’s abundance caused Simon to recognize his sinful condition.  He was undeserving…

What are some more lessons which can be learned from this scene?
Obedience to what Jesus says to do will bring abundance to our lives.

Experience of God’s abundance will give: Peace; rest; love for God; love for others; hope beyond today’s turmoil, chaos and deceptions; faith in God and His words (all of them); desire to follow the Lord Jesus Christ in this day; what would you add to this list?

Recognition of my true condition before the living God:  We are sinners in need of God’s provision of a Savior…which is Emmanuel, God with us…the living Lord Jesus Christ.

God’s abundance…He is generous, He desires for you to have His riches …are you receiving all He has for you?  His word says “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.”  (Matthew 11:28)

This is my prayer for each person reading this devotional:
(NASB) 2 Peter 1:2 “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;”
