Jesus was in the Nazareth synagogue speaking to His hometown folks.  He proclaimed that the Scripture He had read from the prophet Isaiah had been fulfilled that day in that synagogue in that town of Nazareth.  (See Luke 4:17-21)

(NASB) Luke 4:22 “And all were speaking well of Him, and wondering at the gracious words which were falling from His lips; and they were saying, ‘Is this not Joseph’s son?’”

Unbelief comes in many forms…people doubted that Jesus could actually be the One Scripture was speaking of…after all He was the son of Joseph.  The people had watched Jesus grow up, playing with their children, going to school to learn the Law (of God); He had followed in His father’s footsteps and had become a carpenter.  ‘Hah! Can’t be true!  He is just the son of Joseph!’

Is there someone you grew up with who has become noted for something specific?  Do you doubt that they could have done something so well?

Perhaps you are a person who has done something special in your life, and your relatives doubt you or ignore what you have contributed to your culture.  And that can hurt.

How did Jesus handle this situation?  Did He become angry because the people of Nazareth doubted His words?  Their doubt revealed their unbelief in God’s truths.

And Jesus’ response is quite interesting…to be continued tomorrow…
