Jesus’ Proclamation
What would the Lord God of the Bible have me to do this day? Have you ever asked Him that?
Jesus walked through His days seeking His Father’s direction for Him. Should we not do the same? Jesus went to where His relatives, friends and neighbors lived. Jesus went to His hometown, Nazareth, to proclaim His ministry.
He did not go to Jerusalem to make His proclamation; He went to that town which was a crossroads for travel. He went to that town which was not well thought of by many…and considered to be ‘out in the boonies’.
Jesus used God’s words of prophecy concerning Himself. ‘Listen’ to what Jesus said on that long ago Sabbath in the synagogue inNazareth:
(NASB) Luke 4:17-20 “The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to release the oppressed,
19to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.’
20Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, 21‘Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.’”
Jesus, anointed by God to preach Good News to you and me today.
We too, are poor (we are in need of God’s grace, mercy, forgiveness, love, etc.).
We too, are prisoners needing to be released from the bondage, the slavery to sin in our lives.
We too, are blind to God. We need our thinking, our eyes opened to God and His truth.
We too, need to be released from oppression of sin (for we are pressed down by our sins, our culture’s sins, we need to be released from such bondage and to be revived to live pleasing to God).
This year, this day, each one reading this devotional can be freed by the Lord Jesus. That is what He came for, for you and me to be given true freedom.
What would the Lord God of the Bible have us to do this day?
Jesus has come, He fulfilled God’s will for Him, He will come again to this earth…let’s be ready to meet Him!
