(NASB) Luke 4:13 “When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time.”

Satan was rebuffed by Jesus with the sword of the Spirit…the word of God.  Not once but three times the rapier thrusts of Jesus found their mark with “It is written…”

God’s words overcame Satan’s attacks, attacks which were temptations for Jesus to sin against God.

Today, many followers of Christ are attacked with temptations to sin against God…but they are not being deterred from God’s plan for them.  When our faith is in the truth of God’s words, our stand is firm against whatever the devil throws at us.

In Luke 4:13, it states that Satan left Jesus “until an opportune time.”  Overcoming temptations is on-going for the followers of Christ.

Jesus had opportunity to sin against His Father throughout His ministry, but He did not.  One time His own family feared for His sanity, but Jesus was not deterred from God’s plan and purpose for Him.  (See Mark 3:20-21)

Another time His brothers did not believe Him to be Messiah and confronted Him (See John 7:1-5).

Jesus even warned Peter “Get behind Me, Satan!  You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests but man’s.”  (See Matthew 16:21-23)

Be Not Deterred from God’s Plan!

Family, friends, all are well meaning…but Jesus’ experienced well-meaning family and friends too.  His thoughts, His motives, His purpose was to do God’s will…and that meant expending Himself for our good!  Where is God leading you?

If you are experiencing the temptation to turn from God and His purposes, Jesus has been there and understands your temptation.

Seek Him!  Be Not Deterred from God’s Plan!
