The Voice Crying in the Wilderness
(NIV) Luke 3:4-6 “As is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet:
‘A voice of one calling in the desert,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.
5Every valley shall be filled in,
every mountain and hill made low.
The crooked roads shall become straight,
the rough ways smooth.
6And all mankind will see God’s salvation.’”
John the Baptist was that voice, the one shouting in the wilderness. He was preparing the people of Judea for the coming of Messiah.
Messiah! He would come and level the field; He would straighten the roads and smooth them.
All people will see God’s salvation! This is still future to us…but God’s word says it and it will happen. (See Revelation 20:11-15)
How are you responding to God’s message, to God’s voice through Isaiah and John the Baptist?
John’s message: “preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins”
(See Luke 3:3).
All of us need to repent for we are all sinners (See Romans 3:23), we fall short of God’s glory.
We need, all of us, need to ask God’s forgiveness for those thoughts, words, actions which are against God. (It does not matter what you may consider a “big” or “small” sin, repentance is still needed.)
We all need Jesus; He alone is Savior, Messiah…God’s Anointed One to save His people from their sins.
Do we sin? Yes, we do. God’s words show that we need His saving grace in the everydayness of our lives.
God’s message still resonates through the pages of the Holy Bible.
Are you ‘listening’ to the voice which cried out in the Judean wilderness?
Are you responding to God and His words of warning and invitation?
Jesus said:
(NIV) Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
