Israel was occupied by Rome– they were under the authority and thumb of the Roman Empire.  God had not spoken to His people through any prophets for 400 years.  And Zacharias was chosen by God to speak this prophecy at the time of the birth of his son, John the Baptist.

(NASB) Luke 1:67-75 “And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:
68 ‘Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people,
69 And has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of David His servant –
70 As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old –
71 Salvation FROM OUR ENEMIES,
And FROM THE HAND OF ALL WHO HATE US;
72 To show mercy toward our fathers,
And to remember His holy covenant,
73 The oath which He swore to Abraham our father,
74 To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies,
Might serve Him without fear,
75 In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.”

Today, what are you experiencing from the leaders of your country?  Under whose governmental authority are you living?
Today, we have the Holy Scriptures through which God is speaking…are you listening?

As followers of Christ, our hope is in the promises of God.  He promised Messiah and Messiah has come.  He lived and died and was resurrected to life, life everlasting.  This is our hope.  Our hope is not in wishful hoping but in the Living Hope, the Lord Jesus Christ.

(NASB) 1 Peter 1:3-5 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

Hang onto Jesus – whatever else is going on in your life, your home, your nation.
He alone is the sure and Living Hope.
