What did the LORD God do when Adam pointed to Eve as to why he had sinned?  Then the LORD God asked Eve and she said “The serpent deceived me and I ate.”  (See Genesis 3:11-12)

The sin of disobedience was against God Himself.  That was true in the Garden of Eden and it is true today.  Eve and Adam willfully disobeyed God’s clear command ‘Do not eat’…

Interestingly, the LORD God began His judgment on this sin with the instigator – Satan.
And with that judgment He also foretold of Messiah conquering Satan in the future.

(Amplified) Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity between your offspring and her Offspring; He will bruise and tread your head underfoot, and you will lie in wait and bruise His heel.”

Enmity between people and snakes…many people are deathly afraid of snakes, for the poisonous snakes’ venom kills.  The LORD God used this as an illustration of the struggle of Satan for power to be worshiped in place of God.
When you and I sin, we sin against God.  And don’t you think Satan must gleefully clap his hands?  There is true enmity between God and Satan.  It is not a mythical battle, it is a real battle.

The “Offspring” or in other translations “her seed” is Messiah.  Messiah Jesus has shown us through His life in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John of the enmity between Himself and Satan.  Jesus went to the cross in seeming defeat…how gleeful was Satan at that time?
[Tomorrow this devotional will consider what Jesus did on the cross.]

When Adam and Eve sinned by disobeying God’s words they sinned against their Creator.  When you and I sin we sin against God and He is our Creator!  For the followers of Christ…we have a promised Messiah, the Anointed One of God Who rendered Satan powerless at the cross.  (See Hebrews 2:14)

We are a blessed people…

our Messiah was promised

and that promise has been fulfilled!
