The temptation: the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
(NASB) Genesis 3:6 “When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.”

  The results of giving into the temptation:
(NASB) Genesis 3:7 “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.”

How we are like Adam and Eve after they sinned:
After doing what God had said not to do – Eve and Adam then had knowledge of the difference between good and evil.
When you and I intentionally do what God says not to do, no matter how we try to justify our choice or no matter the ‘reason’ we find to excuse our action – you and I have sinned against God.
Like Adam and Eve we use flimsy excuses to cover ourselves.  Those ‘reasons’ are inadequate to hide behind…like fig leaves sewn together.

What inadequate covering do you use to cover yourself before God?

(NASB) Psalm 119:9-12 “How can a young man keep his way pure?
By keeping it according to Your word.
10 With all my heart I have sought You;
Do not let me wander from Your commandments.
11 Your word I have treasured in my heart,
That I may not sin against You.
12 Blessed are You, O LORD;
Teach me Your statutes.”

How can you and I keep our way pure?  It doesn’t matter whether you are a young man or older, a young woman or older…we need to keep our thoughts on the LORD our God and Savior…for only He can forgive us, only He can save us from our sins.

Are you Covered by Fig Leaves?
