Working to Please God
(NASB) Genesis 1:24-25 “Then God said, ‘Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind; cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind; and it was so.
25 God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good.”
God continued to create in an orderly manner with His spoken word “Then God said…”
God assessed the results of His work and “saw that it was good.”
At the end of the day – after working hard and working with excellence – do you assess your work and see that it was good? Perhaps you didn’t finish your ‘to-do’ list, but did you accomplish your goal of pleasing God with your attitude and responses to various people and situations?
Perhaps no one tells you what a good job you are doing or gives you positive feed-back…which can become discouraging. Upon whose ‘well done good and faithful servant’ do you really need to depend?
How much are you dependent on a ‘pat on the back’ and appreciation of you and/or your work? Jesus spoke of this very thing when He said “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things…” (See Matthew 25:21 NIV) Jesus will reward your faithfulness to Him in His timing…perhaps in eternity. But we are to remain faithful to Him…no matter our life today.
God assessed His work and “saw that it was good.”
Would God ‘see’ that what you accomplish each day as “good” in His sight?
When you evaluate yourself…are you too lenient with yourself? Are you too harsh in your assessment?
Work to please God…and as you work, rest in Him. Wait for Him to change the hearts of those with whom you work and interact throughout your day. He alone can truly change them and you. He does it from the inside out.
We are to work to please God and glorify Him!
(NASB) Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;
15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
16 ‘Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
Be faithful in working to please God day-by-day.
