Goodness can be defined as: excellence, value.

The word ‘goodness’ can also be used to describe God.
Moses had asked God to be shown His glory.
(NASB) Exodus 33:19 “And He said, ‘I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion.’ ”

God’s goodness reveals His glory and His sovereignty.

The word ‘goodness’ has been elevated to God Himself.  Goodness is not about being a ‘goody-two shoes’ or a teacher’s pet.

Goodness is a facet of the fruit of the Spirit and it is about God Himself!  It is God’s excellence, His value which reveals His goodness.

That facet of goodness is to be shown in our lives.  Everything that is of excellence or value in your life – the excellence and value of being a child of God, saved by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ – comes from the Lord Jesus and through Him.

Any ‘goodness’ which we have is to glorify God.
(NASB) 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 “…we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power,
12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Any goodness, any “work of faith” is with the power of God working in and through His Son in our lives.
Your excellence and value (your goodness) is all tied up in the fruit given to you from God the Father.
