On the first day of the week two people were traveling to Emmaus from Jerusalem.  Another joins them on their journey and asks what they were talking about?  With saddened faces they asked Him, hadn’t He heard all that had happened in Jerusalem in the last few days?  Everybody is talking about it.  How could You not know?  Jesus of Nazareth, was a prophet and mighty among the people and in the sight of God.  The chief priests and rulers sentenced Him to death and He was crucified.  We were hoping He would redeem Israel and now, it is the third day since this has all occurred.

And the amazing thing that happened early this morning…women went to the tomb and it was empty.   These women came up with a story about two angels at the empty tomb where Jesus had been laid.  They said that they were told that Jesus was alive.  Two of the disciples ran to the tomb, and they found it just as the women said.  How strange and perplexing.  (See Luke 24:13-24)

(NASB) Luke 24:25-27 “And He said to them, ‘O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!
26 ‘Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?’
27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.”

These women believed the two angels without talking with Jesus.  For these two travelers, they believed after they were given proof of Jesus’ actual resurrection through His words and His blessing upon the food at an inn.  (See Luke 24:28-31)

What has it taken for you to believe in the actual, factual reality of Jesus’ resurrection?  What will it take, if you do not believe at this point in time?

What you believe about Jesus will impact your eternity.
