In today’s urban society we are not accustomed to sheep or shepherds.  From a shepherd’s viewpoint: sheep wander away, one mouthful of grass at a time.
From God’s viewpoint we are like sheep…we go astray from Him…one thought at a time.

(NASB) Isaiah 53:6All of us like sheep have gone astray,
Each of us has turned to his own way;
But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him.”
(Underlining added for emphasis)

How do we go astray?  Whatever turns us from God.  Whatever causes us to desire to go our own way.  There is a song “I did it my way”, and when we do it our way, we are turning from God’s protection and provision for us.

Have you ever made a list of what you do when you go astray, when you do it your way?
I would encourage you to make such a list then apply this thought to your list:

I did ____ and caused the LORD to bear my iniquity.

I committed ____ and sin fell on Christ Jesus.

“All of us” are guilty.
“Each of us” has turned our own way, away from God.

How thankful I am for Jesus as my Savior:
“But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all
To fall on Him.”

What is your response?
