Prophecy Fulfilled: Sacrificial Lamb
A ‘picture’ of Christ Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross:
(NASB) Exodus 12:21-22 “Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, Go and take for yourselves according your families, and slay the Passover lamb.
22 ‘You shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the door of his house until morning.
Jesus was declared to be the Lamb of God by John the Baptist:
(NASB) John 1:29 “The next day he (John the Baptist) saw Jesus coming to him and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”
Jesus became the Passover Lamb who was crucified:
(NIV) John 19:28-30 “Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, ‘I am thirsty.’ 29A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30When he had received the drink, Jesus said, ‘It is finished.’ With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”
Jesus finished the work He had come to earth to do…to die for our sins…and He finished that work by dying in our place. It is His blood that protects us, which saves us from our sins…it is by faith anyone is saved. And our faith is to be in Jesus as our Sacrificial Lamb offered to God and accepted by God. There is no other way to go into the presence of God…only through faith, belief in Jesus as Savior.
(NASB) 1 Corinthians 5:7 “…For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.”
There are many prophecies concerning Christ on the cross and all, all were fulfilled. Psalm 22; Isaiah 53; Zechariah 12:10 are just a few references.
As followers of Christ, how profound an impression has this Sacrificial Lamb (Jesus) had on our thinking and our actions?
“Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”
Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away your sins.
Behold, the Lamb of God Whom we need!
