(NIV) Luke 33:35 “The people stood watching”¦”

People stood watching Jesus and two criminals as they died on their individual crosses. Groups of people watching a person(s) die is not restricted to ancient times. We have photographs of people eating a picnic while men are being hung from a tree. There are pictures of people watching while individuals are shot and their bodies topple into a mass grave.

What causes people to watch someone die? A sense of revenge? Justice?Hatred?

What about watching out of love? Watching a loved one die is difficult but being in the room and at the bedside is for that person”™s comfort and support.

The dictionary defines “watch”: To look or observe attentively or carefully; be closely observant”

The people stood watching Jesus on the cross, some through arrogant derision, others”™ through love for Jesus.

Which group would you be in?
