Jesus”¦testified to the truth
Jesus”™ suffering had begun”¦the chosen people of God were in the process of rejecting Him”¦they had handed Him over to be sentenced to death.
As Jesus stood before Pilate, He gave the Roman governor the opportunity to know Him, to know the truth about Him.
Jesus led the conversation, beginning with the fact that He was the king of the Jews to His testimony of truth.
(NASB) John 18:37-38 “Therefore Pilate said to Him, “˜So You are a king?”™ Jesus answered, “˜You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”™
38 Pilate said to Him, “˜What is truth?”™
And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them, “˜I find no guilt in Him.”
Pilate believed Jesus to not be a rebel against Rome. But Pilate missed the truth of the living God”¦Jesus stood before him and offered him truth, the truth from the true God.
(NASB) John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
(NASB) John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “˜I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”
Pilate missed his opportunity to know the Truth standing there before him. He did not listen to Jesus, for remember that Jesus had just stated, “Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”
